Watch Out For
25th Guildford Summer Festival
20 June to 2 August 2008The 25th Guildford Summer Festival promises to be the biggest yet with over 100 events covering sport, drama, music, art and shopping as well as fun events for the whole family. For the second year, the Festival also includes Guildford WalkFest encouraging people to walk and explore Guildford. Many Festival events have become annual traditions, with new events and venues being added each year.
With so many events to pack into the Festival, many of which are free, the Festival Brochure is bigger than ever. Copies of the brochure can be obtained from the Tourist Information Centre, and other information points around Guildford from the end of May. Events are also listed on the website, along with information on planning your visit, transport links and accommodation – visit www.guildfordsummerfestival.co.uk. A host of famous names can be found in the pages – Shakespeare, Sir Peter Blake, Lewis Carroll, Prunella Scales, Dr Who!, Noel Coward, Blondie and even Harry Potter!
A small slice of carnival in the shape of the Guildford Fiesta provides a celebration to officially get the Festival started on Sunday 22 June 2008, starting at 1pm at The Electric Theatre with a diverse mix of talented local groups from samba beats to young bands. You can also make your own carnival costumes with Street Processions and try out samba drumming and dance.
Guildford Summer Festival events book up quickly, so to celebrate your summer with style, you are advised to book tickets as early as possible. Full details can be obtained from the Tourist Information Centre on 01483 444333.
